Obituary for Johnny M. Bopp

Johnny M.  Bopp
Johnny Micheal Bopp, 92, of Eaton passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. He was born on Christmas Day, 1924 in Fort Collins to Alex and Mollie (Dill) Bopp. The family lived in South Dakota and Nebraska, and settled in the Eaton area where he attended schools.
Johnny served in the U.S. Army during World War II under General Patton in Northern France and Rhineland where he was injured, October 8, 1944. After recovering, he returned as Military Police in California maintaining order on trains and civil patrol and was discharged May 7, 1946. He was the recipient of various medals including Good Conduct, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.
On July 17, 1949 he married the love of his life, Mary Ruth “Ruthie” Margheim of Windsor and she passed away November 1, 2006.
Johnny worked at a number of places including John Brady Construction, Carl Hill and Hall-Irwin Construction. He ran heavy equipment including, bulldozer, drag line, road graders and performed work that started the grounds at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Little America in Wyoming. He was also a mechanic with his brother Clarence, the Eaton Police Department, School District 6 and he also farmed.
Horses, camping, the mountains, fishing, motorcycles and boating were just a few of his hobbies, the most important being family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids and their activities. He often picked up kids when needed and helped to babysit. He also liked an occasional gambling trip to Vegas.
He is survived by his daughter, Trudy (Mike) Meis and son, Tom Bopp all of Greeley; daughter-in-law, Kathy Bopp of Eaton; grandchildren, Chris (Hollie) Bopp, Daniel (Brandi) Meis, Kandyce Bopp and Holly Meis Peters; great-grandchildren, Briana, Skylar, Mason, Autumn, Jaidyn and Vinny; brothers, Reuben, Alex “Whitey” and Clarence Bopp; sisters, Margaret and Loretta Cecil.
He was preceded in death by his son Timothy, wife, brother Donald, sister Donna and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or DAV in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, September 25 at the Adamson Chapel with a service to follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 26 at the chapel. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow.
