Charles Russell Allen, 64, of Greeley passed away May 3, 2019. He was born in Pueblo to Wallace and Naomi (Haswell) Allen on May 14, 1954. In 1963, the family moved to Denver.
Charles attended Montana State (MSUB) to study medicine and worked as an EMT. He later graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He received his Master’s degree in School Administration from Colorado State University.
On July 14, 1984, he married Charlotte Bennett. In their 14 years of marriage, he became a father to daughter, Amanda in 1986 and to a son, Jeffrey in 1989.
Charles began his teaching career at Greeley West High School in the Special Education Department and later worked at John Evans Junior High as the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. He would later return to the classroom to teach Language Arts and Social Studies at Chappelow Middle School and finished up his career as the Head of the Special Education Department at Northridge High School. During his 32 years as an educator, Charles enjoyed being the announcer at the Northridge football games and took an active leadership role in the development of Weld County’s Special Olympics.
He had a passion for rodeo, specifically bareback riding and is in the PRCA Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed NASCAR, and spending time in the Rocky Mountains. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s soccer matches. He loved his family and his black Labradors Bob and Diamond.
Survivors include; the mother of his children, Charlotte Allen; his children, Amanda (Crofton) Sacco and Jeffrey Allen, three grandchildren; Luca, Leo and Loic; mother, Naomi Allen; brother, Wallace “Butch” (Sandra) Allen and their children Emily and Seth and sister, Amanda Bjelland and her children Sara and Eric; and his companion Jennifer Cox.
