Obituary

William “Bill” Lloyd Cohea, 86 of Greeley, passed away at Life Care Center in Greeley after a very brief stay on Saturday, October 26, 2019. He was born on the ranch of John Frey near Briggsdale to Lloyd and Bessie (Benesh) Cohea on October 12, 1933. He grew up and worked hard along with his family on their dryland farm and ranch. He graduated from Briggsdale High School and was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably served as a cook from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.

He was introduced to Vera, by his Sister, Mary at a dance and bought her a soda. They were married on May 17, 1958 in Sterling Colorado. They celebrated their 61st anniversary with immediate family this year.
Early in his marriage he worked as a carpenter. He loved working with his hands and tinkering. He was a talented, creative, artistic person. He made his family beautiful bible covers and his wife several trellis out of stuff he had laying around in the yard. He could fix anything. A child of the depression era – nothing ever went to waste. He was affectionately known by his family as a combination of a little bit of Sanford and Son, Archie Bunker, Yosemite Sam with a little bit of teddy bear thrown in the mix. He loved his family and they loved him.

Even when times were tough for the young couple and family he always kept a roof over their heads and food in their tummies. He was a good provider. He retired from Monfort of Colorado after 27+ hardworking years. After his retirement from Monfort’s he and his wife owned and operated Blue Dolphin Mobile Wash and Eagle Lawn Service, working with their children. His customers always appreciated his perfectionism.

He loved the great outdoors, calling it God’s Church, this is where he found peace and prayed. He once told his daughter, Dawn that Jesus never stood in a Church to preach and he reminded her that God was her Father and he was her dad. He loved taking his family on weekend camping trips and vacations throughout Colorado. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved camping. He and his son, Marty continued hunting until last year. He was affectionately known as “Two Elk” when they were hunting.

He loved his western tv programs, Gun Smoke and Little House on the Prairie and rarely missed an episode, even if he had already seen them a dozen times. He loved his Cincinnati Reds, Pete Rose, and the Denver Broncos.

Bill is survived by his wife, Vera, children, Marty and Dawn, Son-in-laws, Donald ‘Joe’ Schell Jr., Michael T. Murphy and his dogs, Buddy and Tobey. Several Brothers-in-laws and Sister-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews with a special mention to his Sister-in-law, Betty Vandagriff who has always been a tremendous support to the family though out the years and continues to do so and dear friend to both he and Vera, Robyn Juba who is more like a daughter to them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Nita Gwen Murphy; his parents; siblings, John, Gene and Mary and nephew Larry Hoff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name can be made to Humane Society of Weld County, in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634. To leave condolences for Bill’s family, www.adamsoncares.com

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 am with visitation starting at 10:00 am, Monday, November 4, 2019 at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley.

I will always remember Uncle Bill and dad singing and playing their guitars. It was always so fun to watch them together. I remember Uncle Bill re modeling your house. He is with his siblings, parents, Nita, Larry and Cindy now. God bless and my thoughts are with all of you.
