Eddie Dyer
1931-2024Eddie Robert Dyer passed away on March 12, 2024, at Collinwood Assisted Living in Ft. Collins. He was 92. Eddie was a true Colorado native born on May 5, 1931, in Gill, Colorado. He graduated in 1949 from Gill High School where he was involved in various activities and was the quarterback of the football team. After graduation, he farmed with his dad in Galeton. On April 29, 1951, he married Mildred Troudt, his sweetheart who lived down the road. Eddie had a love for farming and he and Mildred started their married life farming and feeding cattle north of Galeton. They also farmed in an area just north of Greeley by Seeley Lake then to a small farm off of 1st Avenue, which was eventually washed away during a flood. That might have ended the dream of farming for most, but not Eddie. He never gave up on this dream of farming. He then farmed one section and ran cattle on the pasture south of LaSalle for five years. In 1965, he bought a farm northeast of Ault where he and Mildred raised their family and continued to farm for about 65 years, until he was 90 years old. He sold the farm in 2021 when he and Mildred moved into Collinwood Assisted Living. Eddie was a Christian who was very active in the Baptist church from the time he was married. Over the years, he was an Usher and a Deacon and was on the Financial Board. He also taught Sunday School and was the leader for a youth group – most recently at the Eaton Baptist Church. Eddie was also very involved in The Greeley Shutterbugs, a photography Club. Inspired by the beauty around him, he specialized in nature photography. Eddie visited the grasslands often and walked many miles taking as many pictures as possible. He was an avid sports fan. Staying true to his Colorado roots, Eddie enjoyed the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies, but truly enjoyed all sports. He was also an avid reader and read many books, his favorite being the Bible. Eddie was gentle, kind and a loving man who was much loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. His favorite times were those spent with his family while following his children all over the state for various activities they were involved in over the years. Eddie is survived by Mildred, his wife of 72 years as well as a son Allen and Allen’s wife Shawn, daughter-in-law Patti Dyer, daughter Cindy Kaufman and Cindy’s husband Matt, son Rod Dyer and Rod’s fiancée Marla. 1940-2024Susanne Alice Hauk Miller died peacefully on March 4, 2024. She leaves behind a treasure of memories that will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her warmth, laughter, generosity, and boundless love for and interest in her family and friends. Susanne was born on May 13, 1940, to Blanche Gertrude Love Hauk and George Marvin Hauk, joining older sister Judy. Blanche, a pianist, and Judy, a violinist, influenced Susanne’s lifelong love of music. Marvin, who overfilled Christmas stockings and brought home bunnies for Easter, along with two amusing grandfathers who lived with them at times, influenced Susanne’s humor, playfulness, and desire to celebrate every occasion with panache. She moved to Greeley in 1947, where she began a 70-year practice of making dear, lifelong friends wherever she went, beginning with classmates at Cameron Elementary. She attended Meeker Junior High, where she met her future husband Walker Miller, Greeley High, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado, with a major in elementary education and a minor in counseling. Susanne loved children and taught kindergarten in Boulder and Chicago before moving to Germany with Walker where they started their own family. A nurturing spirit, she loved being with her children, decorating for and celebrating the holidays, and cooking, canning, and baking all things sweet. It was important to Susanne to be involved in her children’s schools, where she was a homeroom mother and president of the PTA. She also worked with the school board on issues like music in the classroom for most of her children’s school years. She then returned to teaching, starting a tutoring program at Greeley Central. Susanne returned to school for a certificate in drug and alcohol counseling, working in the field to help those struggling with addiction, after bravely recovering from alcoholism herself. Susanne was a light in her community and felt strongly about giving to others. She dedicated countless hours to the church and charitable organizations and was always eager to lend a helping hand. She was proud to have served on the board of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, volunteered for the Affair in the Square, and helped start the Festival of Trees. She loved singing in the chapel choir and organizing Wednesday at the Well at the church. Most of all, Susanne loved her grandchildren. In many rooms she entered, not only would she make a friend or two, but she would share a proud story or two (or more) about her grandchildren. Susanne is survived by her three children: Sabina (Bruce) Kilpatrick, David (Kris) Miller and Randy (Sharon) Miller; six beloved grandchildren: Taylor, Jackson and Lindsay Kilpatrick, Hayden and Evelyn Miller, and Alexis Miller; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
