Obituary of Donna Lee Dunham
Surrounded by her family at her bedside, Donna passed away peacefully at her home in Greeley at the age of 87 Wednesday, June 8th, 2022. Donna was born November 13th, 1934, in Snyder, Colorado to Walter Gettman and Katherine E. Kress. She grew up in the Wiggins and Weldona, Colorado area, graduating from Wiggins High School in 1952. After high school, Donna went on to attend Barns Business College, and graduated with a two-year degree. In 1956, Donna’s best friend convinced her to attend a high school reunion prom event where Donna and Deryl D. Dunham would be one another’s date. The two had known each other throughout high school and when they reunited at this dance they began to fall in love. Just a few months later, Donna and Deryl tied the knot on October 27th, 1956. The couple got married at the Congregational Church in Greeley, afterwards, celebrating their union in Colorado Springs. The couple returned from their honeymoon to make their home in Prospect Valley where they would farm until moving to Keenesburg, Colorado. In 1958 Donna gave birth to the couple’s first baby, Denise Diane, followed by Dawn Deann in 1960 and Daren Dean in 1963. It was in 1966 that the family moved to Keenesburg, Colorado where they would watch their children grow up. Donna was employed at Citizens State Bank in Keenesburg starting first as a teller. She continued to learn and advance into other positions, retiring as the Administrative Assistant to the bank president in 1998. In addition to her long career there, she was an outstanding wife and mother to her husband and her three children. Donna was a Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist Church in Keenesburg. She helped host many bridal and baby showers for her kids and their friends. She also volunteered at her children’s schools and helped with and attended activities they were involved in.
Donna enjoyed gardening in her spare time. She loved flowers, especially pink roses, as pink was her favorite color. She also loved to dance. Donna and Deryl were great dancers and they enjoyed attending community Soc Hops and dances at the Trocadero Ballroom at Elitch Gardens in Denver. One of Donna’s favorite pass times was playing card games with her family and friends. She was quite competitive so when they did play card games you could really see Donna’s playful spirit come out. Above all else, Donna loved and cherished the moments she had with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Coming from a large family of siblings, Donna loved picnics in the park with all of them and their families. These were some of her most cherished times.
Donna is survived by the love of her life, Deryl D. Dunham, her children; Denise Johnson (Lonnie) of Greeley, Dawn Ritchey (Grant) of LaSalle, and Daren Dunham (Tosha) of Keenesburg, her grandchildren; Drew Johnson (Stephanie), Jared Thomson (Ali), Jessie Zook (Alex), Cole Ritchey, Lacy Ward (Josh), Tearsa Martinez (Timmy) and Cord Dunham, her great grandchildren; London Martinez, Ruby Martinez, Ryatt Martinez, and Jack Johnson, her siblings; Kenneth Gettman of Greeley, Deanna Weber (Keith) of Wiggins, and Kathleen Northrop (John) of Greeley, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her Sister Patty Lipe, and her parents Walter and Katherine Gettman.
