Obituary of Caron Mae Spaur
Caron Mae Spaur, 85, of Johnstown passed away on May 1, 2023 at UCHealth Greeley Hospital. She was born November 23, 1937 in St. Paul, MN to Herbert Arthur and Hulda Susan (Wyss) Werner where she grew up.
Caron graduated from Our Lady of Peace, all girls high school, in 1955 in St. Paul. She began working for Trans World Airlines (TWA) in San Francisco and transferred to Denver where she met Gilbert Spaur. They were married on December 29, 1962 at a Catholic church in Aurora and were fortunate to honeymoon around the world for a few months before returning to the family farm in Johnstown. She then worked in Accounts Receivable at University of Northern Colorado (UNC) before retiring.
Caron was very involved with her children and served as a 4-H leader and judge for many years, with sewing, quilting and cooking. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing and quilting. She was the church organist over 30 years and also served as the church treasurer for many years as well and most enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Greeley Sewing Guild, Johnstown Garden Club and Greeley Baptist Church.
Thankful to have shared her life are her husband, Gilbert, her children; Sheila (Dan) Rieves and Brent (Delanie) Spaur, four grandchildren; Rachel Rieves, Jake Rieves, Halie (Charles) Tolton and Gavin Spaur and expecting a great-grandchild in October, two brothers; John Werner and Jim (Arlene) Werner as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and their son, Grant in 1981.
Caron’s Life Celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Greeley Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Johnstown Cemetery. A reception will follow at Cornerstone E-Free Church in Johnstown. Memorial gifts may be made to “Greeley Baptist Church” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
