Obituary of Sofia M. Rincones

Sofia M. Rincones, 91, of Greeley, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 in Greeley.  She was born September 30, 1931 in Asherton, Texas to Pedro and Guadalupe (Navarro) Moreno.  She grew up in Texas.  On January 30, 1956 she married Gilberto Rincones, Sr. in Texas.  They worked as migrant field workers and settled in Eaton, Colorado in the early 60’s and later moved to Greeley in the early 70’s.  Sofia worked for Bonell Good Samaritan helping in the kitchen and as a housekeeper.  She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, dancing,  and helping care for her grandchildren. Sofia was the oldest of all of her family in Greeley so she looked out for all of her siblings.   Making tamale’s was a Christmas tradition and her way of bringing all of the family together.

Sofia is survived by her children, Sylvia Thornton and husband Jack of Greeley, Rosa Aragon and husband Dave of Greeley, and Gilberto Rincones, Jr. of Greeley; her grandchildren, Jason Thornton and wife Deanna of Idaho, Eli Thornton and wife Candace of Utah, Angela Sanders and husband Justin of Fort Collins, Nick Thornton of Greeley, Anna Marie Aragon and companion Matt Garcia of New Mexico and Bernadette Aragon and companion Zack Buck of Greeley; 16 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Domingo Moreno and wife Delia of Commerce City, Aurora Pisano and husband Richard of Utah and Maria Hilda Moreno of Greeley.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, and siblings, Ricardo Moreno, Lorenzo Moreno, Valentin Moreno, George Moreno, Pedro “Pete” Moreno, Jr., Raymond Rodriguez, Santos Hernandez, Manuel Moreno, Maria Moreno, and Amelia Sanchez.

Visitation will be 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023 followed by the Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00p.m. at Adamson Life Celebration Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church.  Interment Linn Grove Cemetery.
