Obituary of Barney D. Mayeda

Barney D. Mayeda, 78, of Greeley, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Barney was born in Denver, Colorado on March 29, 1945 to Sam and Chiyoko (Arakawa) Mayeda. He grew up in the Weld County area and graduated from Evans High School in 1963. Barney worked at the family gas station and helped his parents with farming. In 1978 Barney worked for Monfort until 1999 and Meadow Gold from October of 1999 until he retired in May 2011. He enjoyed playing poker at the casinos and with friends, tinkering in the garage, and fishing. Barney is survived by his children, Steven Mayeda and wife Michelle of LaSalle and Traci Castro and husband Richard of Denver; his grandchildren; Amie Gonzales and husband Josh of Evans, Kayla Mayeda of LaSalle, Joshua Montoya of Greeley and Samuel Mayeda and wife Jazmine of Thornton; great-grandchildren, Xavier Gonzales, Abigail Gonzales and Jacquelynn Mayeda; and his siblings, Iris Miyoshi and husband Gerry of Greeley and Doug Mayeda and wife Letha of Greeley. He was proceeded in death by his parents. A visitation will be at 2:00pm – 3:00pm Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Adamson Life Celebration Home. A Life Celebration will follow at 3:00pm.
