Larry Witherspoon, 75, of Gilcrest, passed away August 10, 2023 in Greeley.  He was born in Steamboat Springs, CO on May 21, 1948 to Raymond Floyd and Lois Henrietta (Sparks) Witherspoon where he spent his early childhood.

During his middle school years, the family moved to Arvada and then Platteville where he graduated Valley High School in 1967. 

On October 20, 1968 he married Paulette Stecklein in Denver and they later divorced.

Larry was a pipefitter/welder his entire life, member of the Pipefitters Local 208.  He also served as a volunteer fire fighter with Gilcrest Fire Department for 28 years. 

He enjoyed hunting, being in the mountains, fishing, firearms, re-loading and gun smithing.  He also helped his parents on their family farm for many years. 

Larry served on the Gilcrest Fire Board for many years; 1980-92 as the Treasurer and 1996-2012 as President, was a member of the NRA and several shooting ranges and in earlier years served as a deacon at Gilcrest Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his children; Barbara Witherspoon and Aron (Jennifer) Witherspoon, two grandchildren; Kentlee Price and Seth Witherspoon as well as his brother, Jerry Witherspoon and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Witherspoon, his parents and Paulette.

Larry’s Life Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at Adamson with a reception to follow.  Memorial gifts may be made to “Gilcrest Fire Department” or “Humane Society of Weld County” in care of Adamson, 2000 47^th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.  Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.
