Obituary of Rodney "Rod" Leland Dimmick Jr
Rodney Leland Dimmick, Jr. 78, died August 20th, 2023. He passed away at NCMC in Greeley, Colorado, as a result of an auto accident.
Rodney was born October 10th, 1944 in Valentine, Nebraska. He was the son of Rodney Leland Dimmick, SR. and Lillian Lorraine Chessmore.
Rodney was known as "Ronnie" to his family, "Skeeter" to his old friends, "Rod" to most everyone, and "Grandpa Hot Rod" or Grandpa to his grandchildren. Rod was raised in the Sandhills of Nebraska on the Metz ranch with his sisters, Iris (Anderson) and Linda (Pattinson) and graduated from Cody High School in Cody Nebraska. He served with the US Navy on the USS Sterett in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam war. He married his hometown girl, Darla Pearl Morton in 1971, and they eventually settled in Pierce Colorado. They celebrated 52 years of marriage on June 10th, 2023. He leaves behind a loving wife, Darla, two very loved daughters, Rhonda Hanna (Nick Hanna) and Sonya Pope (Jeff Pope) five grandchildren, Gage Yriarte (Jenna), Ryan Berlier (Sterling), Tyler Pope, Caitlin Pope (Jordan), Daphne Hanna and five great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Oliver, Amara, Kyra and Kai. He is also survived by his oldest sister Iris and many nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle Ralph Dimmick and his sister, Linda Pattison.
Rod was a precision Machinist and Mold Maker most of his life. He owned his own business, first as “Centennial Enterprises” and recently as "Ravishing Rodz." He was a member of the VFW Post 4334 of Ault, Colorado and had the privilege of taking the Rocky Mountain Honor flight to Washington D.C. in 2022. Rod was passionate about old cars and was a member of the Classy Chassis Car Club. His joys in life were his family, his second home in Parker, Arizona on the Colorado river, his little dog Poncho and of course his ’47 Ford. Rod was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend.
He was a man who was loved by all who met him, and a friend to everyone; he worked hard and had a great sense of humor—entertaining all with classic "Rod quips." His Spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday September 8th at Adamson Life Celebration, 2000 47th avenue, Greeley, Colorado. You are encouraged to drive and display your classic or custom car at the service in Rod's honor. Please Park in the designated area.
Those who wish to remember Rod in a special way (in lieu of flowers) may make a gift in his memory to the Rocky Mountain Honor Flight organization (https://rockymountainhonorflight.org/donate-now/).
