William Raymond “Bill” Alles was born March 3, 1942, to H. Raymond and Lydia (Dumler) Alles, in Greeley, Colorado. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly (Brown) Alles; daughter, Alees, of Fort Collins, and son, Ryan (Laurie) of Greeley; granddaughter, Shelby, of Greeley, grandson, Reece, of Sumner, Washington, and Zane, of Greeley; brothers, Phil (Esther) of Greeley, and Steven (Burdetta) of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Barbara Morgan, of Littleton; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a large extended family.
Bill accepted Christ many years ago as his Lord and Savior. He spent time daily reading devotionals and praying. On September 4th he would have read Thessalonians 3:5, “Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the presence of Christ.”
Bill served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division from 1964 – 1966. He worked in heavy construction, driving large commercial vehicles, and working in other related areas for most of his life.
Bill loved to downhill snow ski, play tennis, ride jet skis, and golf. He loved watching Alees in gymnastics and cheerleading, Ryan playing football, wrestling, and baseball, Shelby and Reece playing soccer, and Reece wrestling. Bill and Zane spent a lot of time building Lego, and Bill did his best to keep up with Zane. They also shared a love of playing guitar. Bill was adored by his grandchildren and they knew he was always there for them.
A sudden and unexpected heart episode in 2010 resulted in a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. In 2012, Bill suffered a stroke, which limited his physical movement and forced him to retire. These health issues were such that he was no longer able to donate blood, which was very disappointing and difficult for him; he had donated 56 gallons at last count. If you knew Bill, you know he was very giving. Asking for help was something that did not come easy, and he worked harder than most. His health issues are what ultimately took his life on — fittingly – Labor Day, September 04, 2023.
In the past few years, Bill could be found zooming around town on his mobility scooter, usually with his best friend, “Princess” Charlie, his “grand dog” toy Schnauzer, 11-1/2, who got her wings just two weeks before Bill/ Dad/ Grampa/ Uncle Bill.
Our last family vacation was two weeks at Walt Disney World in April/ May, 2022, to celebrate his 80th birthday. Twelve of us got to watch him enjoy the roller coasters, many attractions at Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, and EPCOT. He especially loved the awe of imagination that is Disney. We also got to watch as he was “scolded” by Cast Members for riding his mobility scooter into the tide pool at a water park, and we were unable to stop laughing at the polka-dot sunburn on the top of his feet created by those Crocs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Wreaths Across America”, in care of Exchange Club of Greeley, PO Box 336816, Greeley, Colorado 80633; and to the mission fund at “Mountain View Church”, 6253 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634 or in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. The family encourages everyone who can to donate blood as often as possible in honor of Bill.
Bill’s Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 9:30 am, at Mountain View Church, 6245 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado with a reception to follow.
