Obituary of Thomas Grant Fisher

On September 12th, we said our goodbyes to Thomas Grant Fisher. Tom was a Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Gramps and Friend to all.

Tom was born on November 9, 1945, in Denver, Colorado and adopted by William Stanley "Slim" and Leona Fisher and raised in LaSalle, Colorado. Tom grew up in a farming family with three sisters, Sharon, Janice and Joanne. In 1963, Tom graduated from Valley High School in Gilcrest and then joined the United States Navy. Tom was stationed at Mare Island in Vallejo, CA. where he met the love of his life, Peggy Sue (Fox), and they were married in June 1967. After serving six years in the Navy, Tom and Sue moved to his hometown of LaSalle where they raised their kids, Chad and Shelly.

Tom was an entrepreneur early on and in 1979 started DCS Construction. With the sale of the business in 1992, Tom became a Realtor helping clients in Northern Colorado for 25 years. Tom was raised to give back to the community and he did that in many different ways, including serving on the LaSalle Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, where he held many different offices. He was one of a small group of men that volunteered to become the first EMTs in the department, was a member of the fire racing team, and he later served on the LaSalle Fire Department District Board. He was a Cub Scout leader for several years and the auctioneer for their annual cake auction. He also coached recreational sports and served on the RE-1 School Board. Tom valued his community as he did his family and friends, as demonstrated through his kindheartedness and generosity. He will be remembered for his honesty, humor, ingenuity and humanity.

Tom worked hard and played hard and, boy, could he dance. Tom and Sue spent their retirement enjoying their kids and grandkids, having great times with friends and traveling in their motorhome.

Tom will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Sue (Fox) Fisher, his son, Chad Fisher and his wife, Amy (Odenbaugh) Fisher and two cherished granddaughters, Katie and Audrey of Aurora, his daughter, Shelly Fisher and her husband Corbin Eckhardt of Greeley, and his sisters, Janice Brown (John) and Joanne Kinsman (Steve), together with nieces, nephews and many close friends. Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon, and his mother and father.

A Celebration of Tom's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Avenue, Greeley, CO, 80634. We invite all to come to remember Tom and celebrate his life.
