Detlef Scholl

Obituary of Detlef Günter Scholl

Detlef Scholl was born in Duisburg, Germany on October 4, 1945 to Friedrich & Greta (Kalcher) Scholl & passed away on September 26, 2003 at the age of 77 years after a long courageous battle with complications of health issues.

He completed schooling in Germany & at the age of 18 was drafted into the German Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1975 & directly entered the intelligence section of the German government. His code name was “Alfred” – hence came the nickname “Freddy” that some often called him.

The first marriage ended in divorce & he had a daughter Melanie and a son Patrick. On March 2, 1984, he married the love of his life Celia (Aguayo) in Hauneck, Germany, and they moved to the U.S. in 1993 after the fall of the Berlin wall. Celia taught in the district 6 schools & they owned and operated the German House Bed & Breakfast in Greeley for 19+ years.

Detlef was a loving stepfather to Celia’s children Larisa & Jason & later to grandchildren Sydney & Blake. He was their beloved “Opa” & the feeling was mutual.

He loved traveling to Mexico with family, fast cars, Formula One racing, antique collecting & refurbishing European Armoires, trips to Black Hawk/Central City, gardening, swimming, the AVS, Nuggets & Broncos, good food & a bit of chocolate, but most of all his family!

He is survived by his wife & soulmate Celia of Greeley; stepson/daughter-in-law Jason & Bradi Slauson & Grandchildren Sydney & Blake of Berthoud CO, as well as other extended family members; daughter Melanie (Andy) & grandson Dorian of Baden-Baden Germany; son Patrick (Sylvia) & grandson Lukas of Karlsruhe Germany & twin sisters Rike & Gabi, no longer in contact of Duisburg Germany; and many former colleagues & friends in Bad Hersfeld Germany, as well as friends here in the U.S. & from DODDS. He was good, kind, and well-liked by all.

He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents & other family members in Germany, stepdaughter Larisa Slauson, brother-in-law Al Aguayo, mother & father-in-law Jovita & Marciano Aguayo & other extended family members. Also, loving pets Rusty, Jaeger & Missy who are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for him. He will be missed by all.
